Subscription TV ad revenues up by 7%

Subscription TV ad revenues have grown by 7.4% between this year, according to the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association.

Total financial year 2011 revenue figures grew to $386m, up from $359m in 2010.

However, the rate of increase is marginally slower than between 2009 and 2010, when revenue grew from $317m to $359 – growth of 7.7%.

“The approach of the industry has been well-rounded, with hundreds of unique channels and programming opportunities on offer that provide advertisers the opportunity to align their products to targeted audiences,” said ASTRA CEO Petra Buchanan.

“In a cautious climate, both brands and advertisers have been increasingly cognisant of getting best value out of their spend by going direct to consumers,” she added.

The news comes one week after a spat between free and subscription TV over audience data. Multi Channel Network CEO Anthony Fitzgerald called for a harmonised approach to audience measurement.
