The Mumbrella Sports Marketing Awards shortlist revealed, plus AOC CEO Matt Carroll to speak at the Summit

Matt Carroll, CEO of the AOC, has been confirmed to speak at the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit as the full program is announced and shortlist for the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Awards revealed.

Carroll will speak about the lead up to Tokyo and the brand opportunity

Carroll will be joined by Francis Coady, Havas Sports & Entertainment GM in a special fireside chat to discuss the Australian Olympic effort for both athletes and businesses as well as brand integration into the Games. His tenure in sports administration includes time spent as the CEO of Australian Sailing, deputy CEO of Australian Rugby Union and GM of A-League and operations at the Football Federation of Australia.

The Mumbrella Sports Marketing Summit will be held on July 5 in Sydney, with the Sports Marketing Awards to be presented as the final session of the day. Earlybird tickets are on sale now, but end on Wednesday.

Julian Dunne will elaborate on the new brand platform for the AFL and diversity marketing

Also announced with the full program is head of marketing and insights for the AFL, Julian Dunne. This year the AFL released its ‘Don’t Believe in Never’ brand platform aimed at a broader audience and supporting diversity in the game at a variety of levels. Dunne will discuss the new platform, the positioning of the code and the results seen so far.

The opportunity for brands to save trust in sport and boost its reputation will also be explored with former Olympian and PwC director of US Immigration, Nikki Dryden. Dryden, who is also a judge and mentor at Hype Foundation’s Spin Lab Global Sports Accelerator, will explain the opportunities brands have to step in and help fix the trust issues in sport on a variety of levels, including in the community.

Former Olympian Dryden will illustrate how brands can save sport

Dryden will illustrate how brands have the power to govern sport and why this opportunity has been overlooked in the current climate of mistrust.

Tying into this is a session on how sports sponsorship has changed and what it will look like in the next 10 years. The Sponsorship Consultants’ founder Vicki Saunders will join community manager Charlotte Wood to reveal the twists and turns that sports sponsorship is expected to take in the near future, including how digital platforms will continue to reshape the opportunities.

Additional speakers confirmed include Nine Entertainment Co.’s director of regulatory affairs, Clare Gill, who will speak on the panel addressing gambling in sport, and PlayersVoice CEO Kerry McCabe discussing the death of the off-season thanks to new media platforms.

Mumbrella Sports Marketing Awards Shortlist announced

The shortlist for the Mumbrella Sports Marketing Awards has also been announced, with TLA Worldwide starring with six nods, including Sports Agency of the Year and Best Major Sponsorship or Partnership.

The Sports Marketing Award winners will be revealed in the final session of the Summit

R/GA, M&C Saatchi (both the Sports & Entertainment agency and the Sydney agency) and TSE with Bashful all came away with three shortlistings each while 7Sport, PlayersVoice and Cricket Australia will battle it out for Sports Media Brand of the Year.

There is only one shortlisted entry for Marketing Team of the Year, with the judges deciding that Fox Sports Australia was the only entry worthy of nomination.
