Yahoo!7 and NineMSN have launched new websites for their respective news brands. The sites are available to some users in beta ahead of of the official launches, both of which are slated for mid-October.
Nine emphasises the speed of its news offering, with an “up-weighted focus on breaking news faster” according to a press release. The other key changes are increased use of video with more Nine News TV integration, better ease of sharing and the use of “most talked about” rankings for stories, along with a new format for mobile and tablet.
The Nine beta site uses the Sitecore content management system and also offers new ad units and formats, including mobile and video. A new scrolling ad format will stay in place as the reader scrolls down the page to increase its visibility.
Features emphasised by Yahoo7! include better search and easier access to email, a longer page to showcase more content and mobile optimisation. The new features for advertisers include sponsored content modules to make it simpler to create branded destination sites. Advertisers will also be able to sponsor content relevant to the brand, with ‘brought to you by’ logos appearing on news items.
