Spicks and Specks, Chris Lilley, Joe Hildebrand and Chaser team return to ABC TV in 2013
Spciks and Specks, one of the ABC’s most popular shows is to make an unexpected return, the broadcaster has revealed.
But there is no word whether Adam Hills or regular team captains Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough will be a part of the music quiz.
Ther announcement of ABC’s plans for 2013 says somewhat mysteriously: “We welcome the return of Australia’s favourite music quiz show Spicks and Specks – but it will be no cover version.”
Update: The Spicks and Specks Facebook page says: “”Australia’s favourite music quiz show Spicks and Specks will be back in 2013 with a new host, new team captains and new games.”
The show had helped the ABC dominate Wednesday night viewing until it ended in late 2011.
Also on the agenda is another project from Summer Heights High creator Chris Lilley. Details were again sketchy, with the announcement saying “you’ll be amazed by the new project”.
The Chaser’s Julian Morrow and Craig Reucassel will front a new show about consumer affairs called The Check Out while comedian Peter Helliar delivers a narrative comedy series called It’s a Date starring Kate Ritchie, Shane Jacobson and Nadine Garner.
A number of programs announced in recent months have been confirmed including local drama series The Time of Our Lives, Serangoon Road, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Paper Giants: Magazine Wars, The Gods of Wheat Street and telemovie Carlotta which are all slated to air in 2013.
The broadcaster has also announced programs for ABC2 including an indigenous sketch comedy series called Don’t Be Afraid of the Darkies and off the back of the successful series Dumb Drunk and Racist, Joe Hildebrand will return with a yet to be named series that sees him travel across Australia.
I’d really like to see Spicksnspecks become more “Never Mind the Buzzcocks.” In case anyone involved in pre-production is reading the comments!

There is no Spicks & Specks without Adam, Myf & Alan. Don’t even try it, ABC!

Have to agree with LB, another case of the ABC ‘snatching defeat from the jaws of victory’ Typical!!

@James or they could just show Never Mind the Buzzcocks. That would be my preference at least.

who the hell keeps employing Peter Hellier? He’s one of the most unfunniest people going around.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks is not a music show.
It is only vaguely funny but in Spicks & Specks both Myf and Adam are real music nerds. Adam is a comedy nerd.
Spicks and Specks lives on repeats ABC2 and should stay there.
Seven years and they left on top. I would hope they do a Christmas Special but they should not do any more shows.

@Richard, Spicks & Specks’ “comedy” is watered down droop with the odd “naughtiness” aimed at making mums go “ooo, that was a bit cheeky, but that Adam Hills is such a nice young boy”. They then take it even further by having Hamish Blake on every second week (or close to). I’ll stick with Buzzcocks, thanks.

I love Spicks ‘ N’ Specks! I’m watching the repeats on ABC2. I’m a ‘young’ mid 60s and I love the banter and comedy between the panel and the different celebs. I like the regular ones, such as Hamish Blake – he can’t be on too much for me, as he has a natural wit.
Don’t know how I’d feel with different panel and host though – it would take a bit of getting used to! Shouldn’t play around with the format either.
