ASB adds outdoor to ‘Tell someone who cares’ campaign
The Advertising Standards Bureau is to include an outdoor component in its ‘Tell someone who cares’ campaign to let people know who to contact if they are offended by an ad.
Outdoor has been subject to increased scrutiny from the government and the public over whether the industry should be more tightly regulated to meet changing community standards, so it is a fitting addition to the campaign.
The ASB’s public education campaign highlights that there is a place where people can raise their concerns about any piece of advertising.
Richard Herring, boss of APN Outdoor, recently said that “creative appropriateness” would be a focus of his term as chairman of the Outdoor Media Association, which is supporting the ASB’s campaign.
I find this ad offensive… did we have to see down his throat. Kidding.

I did just that recently and was told that since the issue has been considered in the past, they wouldn’t bother assess the ad I complained about.
For the record, I complained about Sunbeam’s TVC with three consecutive “mere male” stereotypes.
