The winning act will get a video clip of their performances sent to record labels, plus an expensive lunch and a trophy.
There are prizes for the best costume and band name, which makes a recent agency name change seem nice and timely.
Bands have until Friday 7 October to register.
Those who fear the competition will be ego-sappingly tough might take heart from a promo video just released by production company Flying Fish for the event in New Zealand. You might want to turn down the volume.
