Online premiere delivers 1/10th of TV audience
The iView premiere of the new series of Doctor Who had 112,000 views over the weekend, more than 10 percent of the Sunday TV broadcast.
The television screening on ABC1 attracted 1.033 million viewers (FTA share 18.6 percent).
The episode was available on iView two days before it went to air, a strategy that ABC TV director Kim Dalton says has proved that the audience wants TV episodes on their computers and game consoles.
Doctor Who delivered iView’s highest number of weekly visitors: 224,000 unique usuers and 2.8m views.
The public broadcaster is planning on delivering more special programming on iView. The ABC’s catch-up system is also available to users without the need of a computer, via PlayStation’s PlayTV device and the new range of Sony Bravia television sets.
