ABC on the PS3
The ABC’s catch-up TV service iView is set to be available on Sony’s Playstation 3 from later this year as the public service broadcaster begins a push to widen its audience.
The non-exclusive trial is the result of a collaboration between the ABC and Sony.
Kim Dalton, the ABC’s director of TV, said the move was “the first step in integrating ABC TV content into new online platforms and technologies.” He said: “We want to make our content as accessible as possible to our audience. Increasingly, that means extending our online reach so Australians can watch what they want, when they want it.”
Last month iView averaged 764,000 visits.
The ABC is also in talks with other platforms.
This whole ‘TV on consoles’ thing is pretty stupid – I love my PS3, because it’s quiet, and powerful, and er…plays games? Why do I want to watch ‘Double the Fist’ on PS3 network when it’s on ABC2?
Also, more content needs to be created for all these digital channels, not just tossing around repeats. Although, I don’t really know what iView is, so I guess I’ll check it out. After I’ve played the new ‘Wolfenstein’ that is.
