Alan Butorac new GM of Regional Broadcasting Australia

Regional Broadcasting Australia, which represents the country’s big regional broadcasters, has appointed Alan Butorac as its GM.

The announcement:

Regional Broadcasting Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Butorac to the position of General Manager.

In announcing the appointment, RBA Chairman Mr Doug Edwards said Australian broadcasting, and in particular regional broadcasting, is moving into an exciting and challenging phase, with the transition to digital TV and the approaching switchoff of hundreds of analogue transmitters right across the nation.

Regional broadcasters are leading the way in helping communities throughout regional Australia convert community-owned analogue facilities to digital at no cost to these communities.

“We’re very pleased to have someone of Alan’s experience and calibre to help guide RBA through these major projects,” said Mr Edwards. “Over the next 3 years, Australian broadcasting will change forever, and it’s vitally important we have the right people in place to help manage that change.”

Alan Butorac is a veteran of almost 30 years in broadcasting, in both regional and metropolitan markets. In this new role, he will work closely with Australia’s leading broadcasters, other industry stakeholders, and Government to ensure the best possible outcomes for the industry and for viewers.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of TV in regional Australia,” said Mr Butorac, “and at the same time, a great sense of responsibility to our viewers and our clients to continue to bring the very best of services to the vast bulk of our nation outside the 5 mainland state capitals.”

Regional broadcasters in June this year passed a historic milestone, with Mildura in Victoria becoming the first area in Australia to switch off analogue TV services. The rest of regional Australia, and finally the major state capitals, will follow the Mildura lead over the next 3 years.
