B2B, sustainability, AI and some bingo to feature at Mumbrella CommsCon 2023

Mumbrella’s CommsCon returns on 11 May, with new sessions from Ogilvy PR, Orizontas and Eleven & FleishmanHillard added to the program.

Richard Brett, Ogilvy PR and Ogilvy Health CEO

Ogilvy PR and Ogilvy Health CEO Richard Brett will join Ogilvy PR managing director, corporate and business, Jacquie Potter, to discuss how business-to-business communications is substantially shifting.

B2B communications is a critical tool in many organisation’s marketing armoury, but has a reputation for being dry, formulaic and repetitive; focusing on products features and benefits.

But things are changing quickly. Brett and Potter will explain how B2B is becoming more human centred, personal, emotive, engaging and entertaining.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Liell, partner and co-founder of Orizontas, will be joined by Dr Carl Ungerer, managing partner of Horizon GR, in a session titled ‘Unsustainably sustainable: How to avoid the pitfalls and become true sustainability experts’.

They will assert that the rebranding of communication agencies as sustainability experts without investment in the skills required or depth of understanding of the risks companies face is a serious issue for the industry. Even more so with the global cybersecurity risks that have played out in Australia this year.

Liell and Ungerer will share why Australian communicators need to have the ability to counsel across environmental, social, governance as well as cyber risks.

The session will provide a big-picture view of the issues facing Australian companies in the year ahead and will cover the implications for the communications and advertising industry, allowing it to effectively prepare proactive and reactive strategy to build and protect reputation, mitigate risk and enable clients to get on the front foot.

Russ Tucker, ECD at Eleven & Fleishman-Hillard, will host an interactive session on the future of marketing.

Covering topics such as AI, automation and the Metaverse, Tucker and special guests will unravel the buzzwords of the year and discuss the impact emerging technologies will have on PR and earned media specialists.

Part presentation, part bingo, this interactive session will use case studies from around the world and practical applications for public relations to make the unknown, known.

Mumbrella CommsCon takes place in Sydney on May 11. Tickets are on sale now.
