Doolan’s Cryo set for October shot

Academy Award-nominated producer Drew Bailey and director Luke Doolan will shoot their new short Cryo in Sydney from October 4-9.

“It’s a parallel story to what happens in our feature Cargo. The hardest part was to come up with a self-contained short that won’t feel like trailer for a bigger one; one that works on its own merits,” Doolan told Encore.

Cryo was funded by Screen Australia’s Springboard program. The shoot will take place in Kurnell, Sydney, with DOP Brad Shield, production designer Karen Murphy and make-up artist Nikki Gooley. Writer Matthew Dabner has collaborated in the script, set on board a spaceship and dealing with a female engineer who finds herself fighting to ensure the future of mankind.

The cast includes Brendan Donoghue, Karl Beattie, Mirrah Foulkes and Henry Nixon.

“The plan is to get Cryo into festivals and then return to the US and any other financiers here and try to sell it – and Cargo – off the back of our Oscar reputation,” explained Doolan.
