Communications Director – Indigenous Identified

SUADA is a PR agency for organisations driving positive, sustainable change. We help clients promote and protect their organisation’s reputation through communications, with impactful storytelling and meaningful relationship development at the core of everything we do.

Our services focus on the delivery of strategic communications, crisis management, stakeholder research, training and stakeholder engagement.
Our mission is PR for GoodTM, which reflects our focus on using the power of persuasive communications for the good of the world. It influences who we work with, how we do business and the services we offer. We work exclusively with organisations whose core purpose aligns with one of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, designed to stimulate action in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet, and for non-Indigenous organisations, we look at their commitment to reconciliation in Australia before taking on new work.

We are a fully-remote company, which means you can work from anywhere in Australia so long as you have the time and access to good internet and phone reception, and we have a solid No D*khead Policy, which means that our clients and team are awesome to work with. We’re also a Certified B Corp, and we have conditional approval of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan.

About the role
This role is part-time, three days per week, with the potential to extend after six months.
As Communications Director, you will work closely with the CEO to build strong relationships with clients and the team, to ensure work is delivered to the highest possible standards, and to maintain a positive and flexible working environment for all involved. You will help to develop communications strategies, provide advice with regards to risk mitigation or issues/crises, review and approve communications, including reports, media releases and social media content, and contribute to the development of work when needed.

We have an incredibly strong and kind community of clients and colleagues, so this role will involve a commitment to listening, being engaged in conversations, being thoughtful in your feedback, and applying a level of flexibility that is required when deadlines or commitments evolve.

The majority of our clients are either Indigenous organisations or have a strong First Nations influence, and lived experience as a First Nations person is critical. As a result, this position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).

You will have at least eight years’ experience in public relations/ communications, with a proven track record of team and client management, and examples of work you’re proud of. Ideally, you will have experience in or an understanding of Indigenous education, its history, current social and political context, and key players in this space.
