Open Channel’s ‘Introduction Into Directing’ is a practical training workshop on all elements of storytelling from the perspective of the director.
Starting from the basics of the role of the director and interpreting the script, you will explore how to best use the tools at your disposal to work collaboratively in telling a story to your audience.
With a focus on independent and low budget filmmaking, this intensive course will cover how to best work with your actors, crew and to get the most out of your budget.
Designed for beginners, this course provides you with essential skills for directing for the screen. Apply your skills by directing a cast of actors under the guidance of professional Director,Andrew Prowse (Underbelly, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Rush, McLeod’s Daughters).
The course also covers:
• Working with the script and developing a vision
• The producer and director relationship
• Casting, rehearsing and working with actors
• Working with key collaborators including cinematographer, designer, composer and sound designer
• The on set environment & blocking the scene
• Communicating using diagrammatic tools such as storyboards and shot plans
• Shooting efficiently
• Working with the editor
