New Zealand Herald adopts opinion format for compact relaunch
The New Zealand Herald is moving to a more opinion-led format for its relaunch as a compact edition in two weeks.
The paper will have more columns, dedicate more space to readers’ letters and a lift-out business section with a different focus each weekday. The paper has announced an eclectic group of columnists it is calling its ‘dream team’.
The writers include outspoken journalist Deborah Hill Cone, former Guardian comment editor Toby Manhire, comedian Rhys Darby and television host Jeremy Wells, along with news opinion writers Tapu Misa, Sir Robert Jones, Mai Chen, Brian Rudman and Claire Trevett.
NZ Herald editor Shayne Currie said in a press release: “It’s essential that the new newspaper offers fresh perspectives, and a diverse range of voices. We’ll also have more room for more debate, reader letters and contributed column. We’re pleased to be able to build our stable, and lead daily debate and discussion – through print and our digital platforms.”
I know NZ Herald has a tiny circulation but it must have more than one reader: ah, readers’ letters, not reader’s letters.
