Ten’s Masterchef has returned with an audience drop of about 20 per cent on last year’s opening.
The fifth series of the show debuted with a metro audience of 1.107m, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM.
This was down on last year’s debut of 1.368m, and the lowest MasterChef series debut to date. However, it was also one of the first time this year that a show delivered more than 1m metro viewers to Ten.

Masterchef last night was heavily influenced by My Kitchen Rules. Not much cooking and a whole lot a farcical excitement. I switched off at about 8pm.
Pity – as far as cooking shows go they have gone from being the innovator to the imitator.
You can tell Channel 10 is under the pump.

Shocking start to a new season. I expect it has something to do with the absurd promo campaign and general lack of momentum at Ten .

Good result but a dip over the Ita/Asher led first instalment. Paper Giants Pt 1 in 2011 did over 1.2m metro for the first ep, over 1.3m for the second.

Magazine Wars was amazing. What is wrong with the public. Lousy result really. It was pretty much always going to be a sure thing for quality and entertainment value.

Master Chef’s Curley, Larry and Moe. what a waste of time that programme has become. no way will I be watching this series. Those three “chefs” are so up themselves it’s pathetic.

Very poor first episode. The dishes produced were average if at all. To top it off Masterchef are promoting tonight’s episode to have the worst dish ever! Why would you do that Masterchef, why! Putting yourself down, such bad marketing.

It was nice to see Masterchef back.Boys had a haircut(not George!!). Clever angle to make it boys vs girls. At least they are trying something new and have kept it interesting. Of course there is going to be the usual dramas and background. All the shows have them. Nice diversion from the house renos.

I agree CS. I turned on the ‘taste-o-meter’ on my SmartTV and thought they were shite.
