Labor spends more than $80,000 on TV campaign attacking budget
The Australian Labor Party has spent more than $80,000 on a free to air television campaign targeting the Coalition’s changes to health, education, pensions and the fuel surcharge in the recent federal budget.
According to advertising monitoring company Ebiquity the new attack ad, called “You’ll pay for Abbott’s lies”, was screened 27 times on Sunday and Monday nights at an estimated cost of $80,000.
The ad shows Prime Minister Abbott speaking before the election in various interviews promising to make cuts to key areas it then goes on to show areas where changes have been made. The final line of the ad states: “Abbott lied his way into office and you’ll pay — with your pensions, your petrol and your GP visits.”
The ad appears to have been made inhouse. The ALP did not respond to requests for comment on the TV campaign.
Ebiquity’s valuation is based on an averaged benchmarked cost. If the booking was made late then Labor could have potentially paid a lot more for the spots.

Labor is running a fine line. What happens when/if these budget cuts start fixing this country.

Our media figures are sourced through an industry pool of around 70 companies.
As such every advertiser in our database is on the same calculated average and therefore does not reflect volume, length of campaign, the size of the advertiser and the costs of short term notice periods (which would have been a factor in this case).
It’s meant to be used as an indication of share of voice based on the number of spots we collect over a given period of time and the average cost that the industry pool would have paid for those spots.
As such, $80k is most likely less than the actual costs of the spots we monitored.

Labor wouldnt care too much about the cost. That money would have been sourced from union members anyway.
