GetUp! launch short film competition about protecting the Great Barrier Reef
Advocacy group GetUp! has launched a new short film competition focusing on stories that inspire people to protect Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with the winning film set to be screened at Tropfest in December.
The #ReefReels competition is open to filmmakers from around the world, with GetUp’s national director Sam McLean saying: “This is a chance for filmmakers to play a significant part in protecting the largest coral reef ecosystem on Earth, one of the world’s most beautiful places.”
The competition is being promoted with a minute long video which sees a merman make as many film references as possible as he talks through the new competition.

“It’s also a terrific opportunity for filmmakers and creatives to build their profile and audience base with a showcase at the world’s largest short film festival, Tropfest.”
The competition will accept all kinds of films across a range of disciplines, including animation, comedy, drama and documentary, with a category for entrants under 17.
