Melbourne radio ratings: Kiis posts big drop as FoxFM pulls clear at top of FM market
The normally tight Melbourne market saw some large movements in the last radio survey with Kiis FM falling way off the pace and FoxFM establishing a clear lead at the top of the FM charts.
Fox’s rise has come with the return of Hamish Blake and Andy Lee to the drive slot, who posted a 2.5 point hike in their home state to a share of 12.8 per cent, with the station overall picking up 0.9 points to 9.2 per cent share. The second placed FM station Gold had a share of 8.1 per cent.
While the Australian Radio Network had said it would focus on Kiis in Melbourne this year the station posted a 1.3 point decline overall going backwards in every timeslot, to post a share of 9.2 per cent. Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek suffered from Hamish and Andy’s return in drive dropping 1.7 points to 7.9 per cent – sliding from second to joint fourth.
Overall Macquarie Radio Network’s 3AW remains the biggest force in the city with an audience share of 14.3 per cent, up 1.7 points overall, well ahead of second placed ABC 774 which has a 10.7 per cent share.
3AW picked up 1.9 points in the breakfast slot with Ross and John now boasting a commanding 18.4 per cent audience share.
Despite the climax of the AFL season TripleM’s Hot Breakfast trio of Eddie McGuire, Luke Darcy and Mick Molloy slipped 0.4 points but were still the top FM breakfast with 8.9 per cent share, while Fox’s Fifi Box and Dave Thornton picked up 0.2 points to move into second spot.
Kiis’ woes extended to the breakfast slot with Matt Tilley and Jane Hall losing 1.3 points to 5.7 per cent share and sixth place overall, overtaken by both Nova and SmoothFM, which grabbed the biggest overall rise of the FM stations up 1.3 points to third spot with a 7.7 per cent share.

If KIIS continues to fail during the final two surveys this year, could Duncan Campbell re-launch this station, revert to Mix or close down the 101.1 MHz frequency?

KIIS needs to dump Matt Tilley. His pronunciation of the letter T and S is like nails to a black board.
