Gruen dominates ratings but flails in demos, Nine hands Seven a loss
ABC’s The Gruen Transfer achieved its largest audience of the season last night with 927,000 metro viewers tuning in at 8:30pm, according to OzTAM metro ratings.
The show’s viewership spiked by more than 100,000 on last week’s audience of 829,000 to become the most-watched non-news program of the evening.
However, the program failed to make an impression in the key ad demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54), and was fifth most popular in the oldest age bracket.
Ten’s drama Offspring, airing in the same time slot, pulled a metro audience of 668,000 but fared well in the demographics as the second most popular show across all three groups.
Ten’s The Bachelor was the second most popular entertainment program with 853,000 viewers at 7:30pm, also winning across all three ad demographics.
Seven’s 7:30pm cooking program Zumbo’s Just Desserts continued its steady decline, drawing an audience of 734,000. This represents a decline of almost 100,000 from Tuesday’s audience of 877,000, which in turn dropped sharply from its Monday premiere audience of 1.21m.
Nine’s biggest draw-cards were A Current Affair at 7:00pm and RBT at 7:30pm, each pulling an audience of 825,000.
In news, Seven won the 6:00pm slot with an audience of 1.145m over Nine’s 1.004m viewers. The 6:30pm news front also saw Seven dominate, with 1.090m viewers over Nine’s 914,000.
In the wake of the Rio Olympics, Nine handed Seven its first loss since the Games commenced, with an audience share of 20.7% over Seven’s 18.8%. Ten trailed behind at 15.5% followed by ABC at 12.3% and SBS at 4.6%.
I’m sorry, and I’m first to admit I’m not a maths whizz…BUT you write … “A decline of almost 100,000” was actually a decline of 143,000 viewers from the previous night if you count the drop from 877k to 734k.
A far worse projection is the loss of 476,000 viewers over the 3 nights…now that’s a lot of lollies.

This is how it will be, with much worse to come. The only chance that television has, is to start producing a broad range of quality television, and start showing leadership in the quality entertainment arena.
Drop all this low brow, low IQ, simple Simon cheap crap, in the dumpster where it belongs.

Last time I checked Gruen is on the ABC which doesn’t ‘do advertising’ how exactly are the demographics of any consequence?
