Facebook trials additional newsfeed similar to Snapchat Discover
Facebook is trialling a second newsfeed featuring recommended videos and stories based on what a consumer watches in their current News Feed.
For those part of the trial, the newsfeed can be found under a rocket icon in the Facebook application for both iOS and Android platforms, and does not contain any posts from Facebook friends.
Each piece of content is based on personal preferences including pages or post previously liked in the regular newsfeed.
The new newsfeed is similar to that of Snapchat Discover, which showcases stories, photos and videos from media partners.
The trial follows Facebook’s launch of Stories, a replica of Snapchat and Instagram stories which allow users to post images of their day.
In December last year, Business Insider Australia said Facebook was hoping to create ‘collections’ of content from media partners.
According to a more recent article from Business Insider Australia, the additional News Feed could overcome a problem around Facebook’s limitation of ads in its current News Feed.
Ah FFS. Listen to your users. They want greater control over what they see in their feeds, not having this predetermined for them based on algorithms and a bunch of unsubstantiated assumptions or what the “other” platforms are doing. A setting to permanently display Most recent rather than “News feed” as a default wouldn’t go astray eh?
