Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 knocks The Fate of the Furious from top weekend box office spot
Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has topped the weekend box office knocking The Fate of the Furious from first place, earning $8.616m across 705 screens over the weekend.
Premiering on Thursday the action science fiction film has totalled $15.684m, according to weekend box office figures from the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.
The reigning winner The Fate of The Furious fell to second position as it grabbed $1.717m across 426 screens this weekend, taking its total box office to date to $25.859m.
Showing in 255 cinema screens, Beauty and the Beast also dropped one spot to third place, managing $855,614 over the weekend.
The Walt Disney movie now has a total box office earning of $46.319m, the highest total box office figure of this week’s top 20.
Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi) also debuted this week, pulling in $839,323 across 45 screens this weekend.
Going in Style, which premiered last week, dropped to fifth as it grabbed $832,278 this weekend, taking its total to $2.716m.
The Boss Baby, which sat at number 3 last week, dropped to number 7 managing $482,046 this weekend as it screened on 266 screens.
The Boss Baby now has a total box office earning of $20.693m.
The Lego Batman Movie dropped a few places, falling from fifth to ninth as it earned $280,448 this weekend. Its total is $10.940m.
