AFL and Better Homes and Gardens give Seven the Friday night win
Despite news being the program of choice for Friday night, Seven’s AFL and Better Homes and Gardens gave the channel an easy metro audience share win over its competitors.
Seven’s share was up form last Friday night’s 20.8% to 22.2%, and was well ahead of Nine’s 16.6%, Ten’s 11.8%, the ABC’s 10.4% and SBS’ share of 4.0%.
According to OzTam’s preliminary overnight ratings, the AFL match between the Geelong Cats and Western Bulldogs attracted 515,000 viewers across Melbourne and Adelaide.
Melbourne’s audience was bigger than Adelaide’s, with 405,000 and 110,000 metro viewers respectively.

Nine’s NRL offering, which aired at the same time in Brisbane and Sydney, captured 419,000 metro viewers, as the Brisbane Broncos defeated the Western Tigers 36-0.
In Sydney, 180,000 metro viewers watched the live offering, while Brisbane had a metro audience of 239,000.
Ten’s The Living Room was its most-watched program, with 555,000 metro viewers at 7:30pm – the same time the AFL and NRL kicked off in select cities.
While both Seven and Nine’s sports offering were in the top 20 shows for the evening, the only non-news program in the top five shows was Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens, which aired at 7pm nationally.
The program managed an audience of 665,000.
Seven News won the evening across the five capital cities, with 913,000 viewers just ahead of Nine News’ 907,000 metro viewers.
In the 6:30pm slot, Nine scraped a win over Seven, with 865,000 metro viewers tuning in, ahead of Seven’s audience of 839,000.
The ABC’s most-watched show of the night was its news offering, which attracted 640,000 metro viewers.
