Aldi sticks a child to the fridge as an ‘epic reminder’
Supermarket chain Aldi has promoted its special buys by taping a child to a fridge.
The ad shows a dad opening the fridge, turning to his wife to ask “Darling what is this?” as he sees the child.
“I’m an epic reminder,” the child says.
“Of Aldi special buys,” the woman replies while she ices a cake.
The voiceover then encourages people to put “an epic reminder” on the fridge for Wednesday the 13th.
BMF is Aldi’s creative agency of record.
Blatant child abuse. Shame on Aldi.

I dislike this advert seeing a child strapped to a fridge / how degrading for the child – some child abruset put there just may try this for something different to abuse the child . Come on Aldi – get real – come up with something different to promote your
goods.

I find the child strapped to a fridge is distasteful – consider removing it please.

Are these posts serious? Child abuse? Really? Not a staged, surreal, slice of comedy? Deadly serious? Is this what people really do to their children? Guys, I think you need to get out a little more….

It was my daughter. I can assure you she had a wonderful time on set and thought it was hilarious.

ALDI Epic Reminder? Whose idea was this? A child taped in fridge? Who thinks it’s cool? Who think it’s not a joke? I think it is to simply embarass one or two or few people out there who put simple written reminders in their fridges so they can remember upcoming events to their or someone’s life. The Ad is insensitive.

Thank you Katy I thought she would of and can just hear kids asking their mum to do it to them too haha. Came here as my deafness had me wondering what your girl actually said so surprised at some of these silly responses I must say.

ALDI another Advertising agency might actually provide tasteful and memorable advertising.
I made the decision to avoid your store as a result of this crude and crass “joke” .
Yes, the child may have had a good time, but she would not discern the potential effect the depicted image might create.
A real child abuse case in New Zealand involved a family member who hung a child on the laundry line, gave them a tumble in the cloths drier, and tied them to a bed for discipline. Your ad was simply crude.

Love the ad, think it’s hilarious, especially the small cheeky little grin on the child’s face. People who object need to find a sense of humour and stop taking things so seriously.

This little girl looks clearly anxious and on the verge of tears and can hardly speak her lines. I cannot believe the ad standards approved this despite many complaints. I remember a terrible photo of a very young child with its arms duct taped to a table not so long ago. I feel for that poor little girl she is clearly disturbed take a close look at her face.
