According OzTAM’s preliminary overnight metro ratings, most of those watching the opening ceremony were in Sydney (252,000) and Melbourne (251,000).
The opening ceremony was the most watched program on Friday night TV and topped the key advertising demographics (16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s).
Commentators, Edwina Bartholomew and Basil Zempilas lead the opening ceremony coverage for Seven.
Viewers watch the ceremony took to Twitter to express their frustrations with the number of ad breaks and play-by-play commentary from the network.
Please stop talking And let us watch the ceremony without your unnecessary commentary. We see what you see. We are not stupid. Stop talking

@Channel7 We love it when you take ad breaks during the opening ceremony. Not!

Magnificent.
Only one small problem. Seems there were these guys talking all through the opening ceremony and spoiling it for the rest of us.
Very disappointing.— John Vilnis (@JohnVilnis) 9 February 2018
What whingers.
They get to see a world-class sporting event that costs them … oh, that’s right – nothing.
But they don’t want commentators talking or ad breaks as it disrupts their viewing … yet they have the time to tweet their first-world grievances.
In the immortal words of Roy & HG … go and have a long hard look at yourself in the hall of mirrors (if you can put the phone down for a second).
