Mumbrellacast: 2Day FM in trouble again, SCA rebrands, and Pac Mags CEO chats redundancies
On this week’s Mumbrellacast the team talk radio after GFK’s fourth ratings survey for the year was released. The embattled Sydney 2Day FM breakfast team of Ed Kavalee, Grant Denyer and Ash London dropped to a 3.1% audience share. Senior media reporter Hannah Blackiston asks editor Vivienne Kelly a loaded question: Is Grant Denyer ratings poison?
The revolving wheel of talent has not been kind to 2Day FM since the departure of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O, but Kiis 101.1’s Melbourne breakfast team of Jase and PJ may be showing that sticking with talent and riding the ratings wave could just pay off.
Still on radio, Southern Cross Austereo has rebranded, and the team shared some strong views on the ‘nice clean logo’ design – as one of our commenters put it. SCA’s new brand sound made its Mumbrellacast debut and the team speculated what it represents for the future direction of the broadcasting giant.
And, in light of the State of Origin decider dominating the ratings for Nine, we ask the question: is the sports broadcasting rights model actually broken?
Plus, CEO of Pacific Magazines, Gereurd Roberts came in to discuss the publisher’s digital strategy, what it’s like to manage redundancies, and which of Pacific’s titles is his favourite.
