Saturday Night Rove tumbles to 138,000 metro viewers in its second outing
The viewership of Saturday Night Rove has dramatically dropped to just 138,000 metro viewers, or 202,000 when combined with the regional markets.
Ten’s primary channel share on Saturday evening was just 5.5%, falling behind Seven’s multi-channel 7Flix on 5.6%, which broadcast the 1984 film Romancing the Stone, followed by its sequel Jewel in the Nile.
Saturday Night Rove premiered to 244,000 metro viewers. During its Pilot Week outing last year – when it was known as Bring Back Saturday Night – it had 203,000 metro viewers.
The Seven Network narrowly took out the night with a 30.4% audience share. Its primary channel broadcast the animated film The Lego Batman Movie, which received 168,000 metro viewers, and live-action Batman Begins at 9:10pm attracting 157,000 metro viewers.
Tentpole program Seven News was the highest rated program for the evening with 751,000 metro viewers, but was pipped at the post in the key advertising demographics of the 18 to 49s and 25 to 54s by Nine News at the same time.
Nine’s network share for Saturday night came in at 30.1% with its primary channel topping the night with 17.9%. Nine’s broadcast of the Sydney Roosters and Penrith Panthers NRL match had 233,000 metro viewers. In Sydney, 135,000 viewers tuned into the game and, 76,000 viewers watching in Brisbane on Nine. Just 12,000, 3,000 and 6,000 viewers tuned in from Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth on 9Gem, respectively.
In Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, 180,000 viewers tuned into to the 1996 film Twister on Nine, as the alternative program to the NRL. The film, which stars Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as tornado hunters, also aired on 9Gem in Sydney and Brisbane, receiving 30,000 and 20,000 viewers respectively.
The ABC had an 11.3% primary channel share. ABC News was the third highest rated program for the night with 609,000 metro viewers. Deep Water, which follows ABC news, attracted 364,000 metro viewers, and period drama Poldark rated had 272,000 metro viewers.
At 244k that is around what sunrise and today show rate most mornings metro markets 5 cap city. At 138k for prime time suffice to say is a shocker and think press release being prepared around about now to confirm what the viewing public have decided – GONE!!!!!
Maybe rove needs to concede he is not the funny man he was 10- 15 years ago as everything he has touched in tv and radio in recent times has been a disaster.
His production company have the project a successful show for 10 so maybe stick 2 the occasional appearance on that and let the current panel continue their good work.

The first job of a comedian is to be funny.
Rove is not funny.
Neither is he relevant.
He had his moment in the sun many moons ago.
That’s more than most have done.
He should be grateful for that and forget any hopes of a Second Coming.

He’s not that funny, and what’s more annoying, is that he thinks he is.

Agree – called this in the original thread. So not funny. Say hi to your mum…

I have to agree with too many to be wrong and what a surprise!
Rove hasn’t been funny for a very long time – comedy is hard, and it’s like being an elite athlete – if you aren’t training and competing all of the time, you lose your edge.
I’m sure there’s lots he can do that doesn’t involve being in front of the camera, and as Tasma showed in Mystery road this year, she’s still got plenty of acting chops, so maybe let her be in the limelight for a while…

When will the Programming team at Ten – Beverly and Stephen – learn to develop and launch new & relevant talent? The answer is never, and it has cost the network for so many years now.
In their eyes, there are 4 talent Chris, Julia, Grant, Osher – their constant recycling doesn’t allow any of their shows to have their own identity.
And when they do something worth a crack like a Saturday night show, their abilities extend too “hey, let’s get Rove back – he’s a name”.
Move on team – it’s 2019, actually, almost 2020. Rove?

About as funny as a lynching.

Rove’s productions are rating well.
Ten thinks “we’ll have some more of that”.
But there were no Rove productions in the pipeline ready to go.
Ten thinks, why not have Rove host a live programme.
Rove says yes.
We know the rest now.
