Former 2GB broadcaster Chris Smith joins Sky News as part of 2020 lineup
Chris Smith’s next media role has been revealed, as he’s announced as part of Sky News’ 2020 lineup, hosting two regular programs.
Smith will host Chris Smith Tonight on Thursdays at 8pm and Chris Smith & Friends on Sundays at 10pm. Smith will join returning talent including Peta Credlin, Andrew Bolt, Chris Kenny, Alan Jones, Paul Murray, Sharri Markson and Rowan Dean.
Smith and 2GB parent company Macquarie Media ‘ended their working relationship’ in July, after rumours he was going to be sacked from the business. He will also host a summer-edition program, Chris Smith: Inside the News Live, which will air weeknights at 7pm from December 16 to January 24.
Not returning to the news channel is Derryn Hinch. Hinch, his program on Sky News, will wrap up in December.
“We would like to thank Derryn for all his hard work and effort and look forward to working with him on a new project in 2020,” said a Sky News spokesperson.
Sky News is revamping its Sunday night lineup, with Sharri Sundays, hosted by The Daily Telegraph’s Markson, at 6pm. A new live debate program, In My View, will air at 8pm, followed by Paul Murray Live, which returns for its tenth season with a brand-new set and format, at 9pm and Chris Smith & Friends.
New in 2020, Kieran Gilbert will host Afternoon Agenda Live, a new political program. Gilbert will also host Sunday Agenda with new political editor Andrew Clennell.
In the lead up to the US Election, Sky News business editor Ticky Fullerton will host a new six-part series The Alliance examining the important role and impact of the US-Australian partnership. Fullerton will also return with The Australian’s media editor Leo Shanahan for another season of Business Weekend.
After the success of Sky News’ first locally produced documentaries Bad Blood/New Blood and Lawyer X: The Untold Story, in 2020 the channel will add to its documentary slate with anchor Peter Stefanovic for another two-part series. Further details will be announced early next year.
Sky News’ award-winning team of experienced journalists including Kieran Gilbert, Laura Jayes, Peter Stefanovic, Andrew Clennell, Ticky Fullerton, Ashleigh Gillon, Tom Connell and Annelise Nielsen will bring viewers unrivalled news and analysis across politics and business.
The Friday Show, hosted by Herald Sun columnist Rita Panahi, has extended to three hours, and The Kenny Report will move to a new timeslot of 5pm weekdays.
Paul Whittaker, Sky News chief executive said: “We’re excited to announce our 2020 programming schedule which brings together the best journalists, commentators and broadcasters in the country to provide comprehensive perspective and insights on the issues that matter most to Australians.
“In 2020 we continue our significant investment across live breaking news, expert commentary and national affairs, as well as long-form investigative content, to provide viewers with an unmatched line-up of must-watch news and national affairs programs.”
Outsiders’ Rowan Dean will host Outsiders’ Guide To… with The Daily Telegraph’s opinion editor James Morrow and Panahi. Outsiders’ former hosts Ross Cameron and Mark Latham were dropped over the last two years after various on-screen outbursts. Panahi and Morrow had been filling in with Dean. The regular Outsiders will also return.

“Chris Smith tonight with Chris Smith”
Reminds me of the episode of Frontline where Mike Moore was deciding on the title of his autobiography. “Mike Moore by Mike Moore…”
Ridiculous. Deserves the timeslot

Is this lineup meant to bring in more viewers in 2020? Or is it going to remain an echo chamber putting forward right wing views

If there was a media industry rugby game, Sky News would be the easiest to beat – they’d all be out on the right wing.

See the trolls are out commenting tonight. Guess they never watch Sky as their balance in reportt8ng is second to none,
Looks great Sky.
Three questions,
The Last Word I hope returns as one of my favourites.
Paul Murray on Sundays… will it only be for one hour?
Kenny on Media… sure hope it stays.
Hinch gl8 g is one great giant step. Would love more of Bronnie…she has so much knowledge in that head, with less of know it all, Nicholas Reese, would be an improvement.

Can’t they find someone better than Peter Gleeson? His pronunciation, grammar & general knowledge is appalling. Also, where’s Cory Bernadi’s show?

Very happy Darren Hinch has been dropped. In the past I thought his stance on paedophile reporting was excellent but was a complete failure and lost my respect and many people’s opinion of his diminished when he voted for the Medivac disaster. What a complete fraud he turned out to be. Extremely dissapointing and disgusting to vote for the weakening of our boarders especially now with very real threats to Australia’s security. SHAME DARREN HINCH … you belong to our despicable ABC LEFTIES
Good riddance !!!!

Agree with Carolyn about Christopher Reece … what a pain in the butt !!
This socialist wanna be communist might be articulate but the rubbish he spews is worrying especially his influencing our already leftie students by our leftie teachers !!
Bronwyn Bishop has forgotten what this Comrad [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] thinks he knows.

Brett, so I suppose “our ABC”
Is well balanced with that joke Q&A
Been stacked with leftie greenies and the Chardonnay socialist labour panelists and audience ?!?!

Asking for a friend ….
You’re joking right??
Most of our media outlets are lefties and even “our ABC” whose charter is to report news and not have any political bias are unashamedly
LEFTIES. I hope you find a friend and no doubt will be a “LEFTIE”

Cann’t believe the comments about Foxtel after dark toxicity. I say thank goodness we have the spotlight on all the news reported by Foxtel because the truth is that “our ABC” Is indeed very TOXIC with its LEFTIE views and pro greens agendas. Furthermore, Foxtel has continual programs updating the news worldwide unlike “our ABC that our taxes pay for over 1 billion dollars that play music videos in RAGE for hours on end !!!!!
Thank you Foxtel and a big FAIL ABC

Unless it was against the ABC which would have all played out on the left wing! ?

Brett .. I can still hear the pathetic echos from Kevin Rudd and poor old dithering Keating. Seems like a lots of echos from these has beens. One other thing about these two pro China advocates, it would be very interesting to know how much MONEY they made over the years hhmmm ???

TV Fanatic … Yes Chris Smith in Deserves the time slot because he speaks the truth and isn’t influenced by the “PC Police like Hinch who talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk. Good decision to drop Hinch cause cann’t stand his EGO and he is a Chardonnay socialist or perhaps “red wine” socialist in his case !!!!!!!

It’s time the ABC was privatised. The taxpayers deserve better.l am sick and tired of the left learning opinions that are expressed. The ABC should be for regional and rural areas only.

Agree Pat Lynch because the inner city hipsters dont even watch the ABC and yet Our billion dollar taxes that pay for RAGE that is played most of Friday night into midday Saturday is a disgrace. Even the market they are targeting don’t watch that rubbish !!! What about pensioners who have paid taxes all their lives get to watch shows without violence and swearing. For goodness sake ABC all the programs are either leftie bias, “white” man loathing all woman panelists or indigenous activists.
It is OUR ABC too not just the PC Chardonnay socialists, anti Christians, anti Jews and pro Muslims which is why Wahleed Aly got a gig cause let’s see he isnt a toxic white Christian man. !!!!!
I want MY ABC back !!!

Wonderful to learn that Chris Smith has been given a few timeslots at Sky but would like to see him with more coverage. He is really proving what a loss his talent has been to 2GB and Sky has to be congratulated for adding him to their lineup.
We now watch Sky 95% of the time and feel the variety in hosts and content is great.
It is a good move to drop Derryn Hinch.

Agree with Barbara about Chris Smith. So happy Darren Hinch has been dropped and I still remember when he announced “I’m back”
I almost threw my shoe at the TV
Had to switch him off the minute his show started. He lost my respect when he voted for Medivac along with that turn coat Julia Banks helping to carry out the betrayal for her friend Malcom Turnbull. Shame
Thank you skye and looking forward to Chris Smith’s shows in 2020

I meant Nicholas Reece not Christopher Reece is a pain in the butt. Coincidently, watching the UK elections and it would seem that Nicholas Reece’s COMRAD friend Jeremy Corbyn has been kicked in the butt !!!
Looks like the “quiet pommies”
Have dodged a bullet just like we did with Comrad Bill Shorten. Phew ?

Issuing mistake previously calling Nicholas Reece Christopher Reece. I called him out as being a pain in the butt.
Actually, he is a socialist wannabe communist pain in the butt !!

OMG please don’t invite Antoinette Latouf on Kenny again !!!!
What a typical [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] women who is so aggressive and won’t let anyone else speak. Please don’t allow this [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] on Skye again. Honestly without been mean spirited I am over these [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] who won’t let anyone else speak. I am a female and feel sorry for young males today having to put up with OVER CONFIDENT and AGGRESIVE SCREACHING [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] females. It is wonderful to see an articulate female debate and act respectfully but Antoinette Latouf is [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] . Perhaps someone should have told her it was not her show !!!!
Ps will miss Chris Kenny

Just tuned into Chris Smith on SkyNews. What a breath of fresh air. Always topical, always tells it how it is. Well done, Chris, I’ll be tuning in again.

Congratulations Chris Smith to Sky News 7pm. You were the best at 2GB and deserving of your new role. I will be a regular watcher.

Love your show Chris. I am an older person in my mid seventies. As a child about 9 or 10 years of age I lived at Wollongong when there was a very hot spell of weather. I clearly remember an article in either the Illawarra Mercury or the South Coast Times relating someone cooking eggs on the hot footpath. It would have to be hot to do that.
I lived and worked at Bourke in the 1970’s and having experienced the heat there I pose a question. The thermometer at Bourke back then was located on a well watered lawn, close to the Darling River. On very hot days as I drove out of the town there was a noticeable increase in temperature within the vehicle. It would have been interesting to know the temperature at North Bourke. Some farmers out in the Bourke area who would have records going back many decades. I think some may have differing records to the official BOM temperatures. It would be interesting to know what some of the were.

I used to think that Chris Smith was a fresh of breath air but seeing that he has Fiona Scott as some sort of specialist commentator on his Boxing Day Andrew Bolt segment I must reappraise his credentials.
Andrew Bolt was stupid enough to include this partner of the destructive (to Democratic Reform) of the NSW Liberal Party – Michael Photios’ Lobby company, that one has to wonder why she is periodically included in this segment.
I will lobby with all my Liberal Party members to boycott Bolt’s (and yours) appearances.

Hi Chris,
As a regular listener to Sky News I am amazed at the ages of some of the people who are quick to blame the bush fires on climate change.
I would like to share an observation, involving a little bit of history of Australia as I and many of my friends remember it.
As a teenager growing up in the 1970’s I can remember cattlemen bought leases to allow them to run cattle in national parks. These cattlemen managed the national parks very well for more than a century. Keeping the grass and regrowth to a minimum. This in turn significantly reduced the chances of bush fires. They did this because this was their livelihood. I cannot remember to many out of control fires during the 1970. The first major fires I can recall were the Ash Wednesday bush fires in South Australia in February 1983.
In the early 1980’s I can remember both political parties at State and Federal level bowed to pressure from the Australian Greens to shut out the cattlemen from the National Parks. As a result, they locked the gates on the National Parks and as such has allow these parks to become what they are today. A time bomb waiting to happen. This summer is evidence of that.
It is time the Australian public and the Government of today hold the Australian Greens to account.
Unlock the gates and allow the cattlemen back into the National Parks. History has shown they did a far better job of managing them for over one hundred years then the consecutive State Governments have done in the period since the early 1980’s.
Just an observation.
Greg Pershouse.

G’day Chris,
You want tax reform? Try my 1% bank transaction tax. Simple, effective, cannot be rorted and will raise more money at less cost and save the Business community between $6-$8B a year in accounting and legal costs. Cost to collect – $0 yes $zero.
Want to control the Drug trade. Contrary to that bloke you had on tonight – take out he profit motive and you will eventually take out the demand. Too many people in high places and law enforcement that make $m’s out of the trade for it to be properly addressed. The Bootleggers in the prohibition days made $m’s because of the illegality of the grog trade. Same thing is happening around the world right now especially in Mexico. So much money that it’s impossible to control. My 1% tax would help. Drugs have to be cheaper than apples and so that he farmer gets a greater return from his legitimate crop than he gets from Heroin or Dope. The death penalty for traffickers would put a dent in the trade as well. We don’t have the guts to fight it!
I’d like to talk to you about these and other issues, how about a return email??
Best Wishes
Tony

Just so incensed over your rant on Weekend sunrise. You just don’t get it. Ok you may believe in the prime minister but he just does not get it either. Why is there not a NATIONAL response!!! The PM says that it is a state fight. But it is not. And to take that women’s hand so help me if that was me I would have slapped him. My husband has named him Nero, he played while Australia burnt.
