Classic Hits mulls local content strategy after The Jono & Dano Show is axed
ARN has not ruled out a local content strategy in the wake of the termination of the Classic Hits radio program The Jono & Dano Show.
The MCM Media-produced show featuring Jonathan Coleman and Ian Rogerson, which ran on 32 radio stations including WSFM Sydney, 4KQ in Brisbane and Gold FM in Melbourne, was axed after three years.
Duncan Campbell, ARN’s national content director, told Mumbrella: “We are currently looking at a number of possibilities for drive on Classic Hits in 2012 – including the possibility of pursuing a local content strategy.”
This would mean that more shows are produced for local audiences, rather than a single show broadcast nationally.
The Jono & Dano Show will continue on Classic Hits until 2 December.
They got rid of a cheaply produced networked program that was getting good ratings Australia-wide and replacing it with expensive, unproven local programs on each station?
Doesn’t sound like a good business move IMHO

It costs more to do separate programs on a lot of stations unless it is a dukebox output with time, weather…. boring. And then what about the regional stations?
So it could sound like rubbish.
Problem was the mcm model was expensive in some ways and too heavy in the number of ads. Jono and Dano should put their own show together and flog it. When they fire ,they fire….

expensive or not, i hope the new show would be more entertaining than the current duo. I listen to classic hits all day and switch to classic rock in drive… very happy to hear this. and i’ll bet their ratings will go up if they find some good talent for the 5pm drive time.

I like Jono and Danno but (Hoin) the pair did not rate well. Pity.
