Spicks and Specks’ final bow
The ABC announces that after seven years on our screens, music game show Spicks and Specks will finish with a one-hour finale on Wednesday November 23, 2011 on ABC1.
Spicks and Specks draws a weekly audience of approximately 1.3million viewers, says a press release and has consistently been in the ABC’s top 10 shows between 2006-2010.
The show won this year’s Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Light Entertainment Program (2011) and the AFI Award for Best Light Entertainment Television Series (2009).
The decision comes from host Adam Hills and captains Myf Warhurst and Alan Bough deciding to end on a high.
In true rock n roll style the team echoed Kurt Cobain of Nirvana’s famous quote – “It’s better to burn out than to fade away,” – with Hills saying, albeit it less rock n rolly, “We always said we wanted to leave when we were on top and while we were still having fun, and now feels like the right time.”
Bough agreed, “I’d rather people were upset because we stopped a little early, than upset because we stayed far too long.”
Warhurst, who was previously a presenter on Triple J said, “It’s been a wonderful privilege to be part of Spicks and Specks. I’ve worked with an incredible team of people, both on and off screen, and miraculously, managed to keep a job on TV for seven years, on a show that people love.”
Hills will continue his commitment to comedy/tonight show Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight while Warhurst and Bough are still in discussions with the ABC regarding seperate TV projects.
Nice research mate, that is a Neil Young quote not a Kurt Cobain one, he just wrote it in his suicide note

Apologies, right you are Broden – originally a Neil Young lyric, famously a Kurt Cobain suicide note and oddly a corny line from Kurgan in Highlander.

Too bad so sad for the many fans – now that just leaves us with RocKwiz for something different and refreshing from the junk on commercial television. Hopefully there’ll be enough distraught fans out there to encourage Aunty to come up with something new to fill the pending void.
