The Great Australian Detour has returned to TV

The Great Australian Detour is back on TV, and features Subaru Australia’s “first all-electric SUV” – the Solterra.

The announcement:

Subaru Australia’s much-loved television program, the Great Australian Detour, has returned to television screens across Australia.

This season features Subaru’s first all-electric SUV, the brand-new Solterra, and it promises to showcase some of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes and epic places.

Subaru Australia again collaborated with production company, Sloane Media, to create the series, and with its media agency, Starcom, to bring the television series back on air.

Subaru’s Great Australian Detour is currently being broadcast on Channel 9 every Saturday at 12.30pm until 23 December. Over nine episodes, Subaru Australia brand ambassador Andrew Daddo will take the all-electric, symmetrical all-wheel drive Subaru Solterra on a journey to some of the best parts of Australia, exploring places like the Snowy Mountains and Far North Queensland to showcase the Solterra’s versatility, reliability and state-of-the-art safety features.

The show represents the second season of Subaru’s Great Australian Detour, with last year’s instalment the most watched television program at that hour across all the Free-to-Air (FTA) networks. Alongside its weekly timeslot, this year’s show will be available on demand via BVOD service 9Now.

The campaign also includes a partnership with the Ben Fordham LIVE program on Nine’s 2GB radio station. Every Friday until 23 December, host Ben Fordham will encourage NSW listeners to call in and share the best places they have discovered while on a road trip. Callers will go into the running to win an all-new Subaru Crosstrek SUV, valued at over $46,000. A nationwide radio campaign is also running in other states to support the series.

Subaru Australia’s national marketing manager, Trent Whitechurch, said: “Great Australian Detour truly represents the Subaru way of life. Where it’s not about just getting from A to B, but rather the magical moments discovered and shared along the way.

“Given the success of the first series, it was a no brainer to embark on another. This time we raised the bar by detouring to some of the most beautiful and iconic places around Australia. We put the all-new, all-electric Subaru Solterra and its SUV capability to the test, The result is truly epic, and we invite everyone to take the time to explore their own backyard and all it has to offer!”

Starcom account director, Manon Jardin, said: “At Starcom we believe in the power of great content. We are thrilled to have partnered with Subaru Australia, Sloane Media, and Nine to bring the new season of the Subaru’s Great Australian Detour to life. The launch of Solterra in Australia is a significant milestone, and this television series stands as a true testament to Subaru’s belief that the long way is the best way.”
