Andrew Bolt discovers Twitter fake. Is cross.
News Ltd columnist Andrew Bolt has, it would appear, had something of a sense of humour failure over his fake Twitter persona.
This morning, Bolt wrote in his Herald Sun blog:
It shouldn’t need saying, but I do not have a Twitter account and the fake one seems to be the work of people whose employer will be very embarrassed to find its staff once more engaging in deceitful slurs. A little warning there. A tearful sorry afterwards will be both too late and insincere, especially from people with their record of sliming.
The fake Andrew Bolt, who has about 5000 followers, does give certain subtle clues on Twitter that he ain’t the real deal. Such as his bio:
“Journalist. Blogger. Broadcaster. Climate scientist. Great in bed. This is the Twitter of Andrew Bolt. Follow me you barbarians.”
Or messages such as:
“Julia Gillard should put together a comittee of common folk to see if they can change the laws of physics. I suspect they can.”
And:
“This election is colourless. Unexciting. Contains a large xenophobic element. I love this election.”
And:
“Women. You give them the vote and they rush off and irresponsibly vote for an irresponsible woman. Take their vote away, I say.”
In related news, Dr Mumbo is starting to wonder if Big Harto (“I was thinking of reprimanding Akerman for turning up to work in a blood-spattered clown suit. But then I thought, ‘let Piers be Piers’.”) might not really be the authentic voice of News Ltd chairman John Hartigan.
I can take @andrewbolt disappearing, sad as that would be. But please, please let us keep @BigHarto. His tweets are few and far between, but they are consistently the funniest thing in my feed.

As a Herald Sun reader I find it disgusting that someone uses the internet to create an account in someone else’s name. Especially an academic with a moral voice on the issues that count, such as Mr Andrew Bolt.

Nice touch, calling yourself “MR Andrew Bolt”. Woud have thought you could at least come up with a fake name and not just ‘Herald Sun Reader’.
…also wondering who would ever apologise to Andrew Bolt for anything, letalone tear up doing it.

This is like being told the tooth fairy isn’t real. (Yes it is, kids.)

Yes, there is a serious issue with online civil society and integrity. Traditional publishers have a significant interest in pursuing it. The conversation is only just beginning.

I’m surprised he only just found out! – he shouldn’t worry I think the account is very clearly fake, although to some people on Twitter it does seem less obvious ;p

Oh please. The only reason Andrew Bolt (finally) wrote a column about twitter-bolt is because he couldn’t be stuffed throwing together his usual hot air and vitriol. A nice little self-serving whinge about the imitators will suffice for some click-throughs and controversy, no?

There was an official Twitter feed for Andrew Bolt columns and blog posts, from the Courier Mail. It only attracted about 250 followers.
What happens when the parody is more popular than the reality?

When I Google “village idiot” on my computer, Andrew Bolt’s name pops up. Is this true?

I really don’t see much difference between fake Andrew Bolt and real Andrew Bolt. Both idiotic, too-far-right, nut jobs.
