Aimee Buchanan named new CEO of OMD
Media agency OMD has named Aimee Buchanan as its new CEO, replacing Peter Horgan who stepped up to lead the wider Omnicom group earlier this year.
Buchanan had been the internal favourite for the role, having been managing director of the Sydney agency for the last two and a half years.
Horgan said in a statement: “Aimee’s capability and dedication has been fundamental to the growth and success of OMD Sydney over the last five years.
“She is a proven performer and leader, with a diverse skill set and importantly a huge passion for the OMD brand.”
Buchanan added: “I am thrilled to be appointed as the CEO of OMD Australia, to be leading an amazing team, working with Australia’s best brands at a time when media has never being more exciting or relevant. I am passionate about our ongoing focus on driving growth for our clients, from our people, always done with integrity.
“I have big shoes to fill, but I look forward to continuing to work with the team to build on the success that OMD has had over the past 12 months.”
Buchanan joined OMD to take the lead for the Tourism Australia media account in 2011, which the agency lost to rivals UM earlier this year.
She started her career at Mitchells in 2000, before spending the eight years with MPG in a series of client roles, before moving to OMD.
The agency has made a series of senior appointments since Horgan’s elevation, after former Omnicom CEO Leigh Terry was pinched by IPG Mediabrands for a regional role.
Last week former Mitchells and Initiative CEO Kenny Stewart was named as the new lead for the Brisbane and Perth offices, while Hamish Strahorn was named as the lead for its Telstra account last week.
Great news. Well done Aimee. Good to see OMD practising what they preach in terms of gender diversity. Unlike some others…
