YouTube extends free brand channel service to Australian nonprofits

YouTube has launched a service allowing Australian nonprofit organisations to create a free brand channel on the video-sharing site.

The YouTube Nonprofit Program, already available in the US, UK and Canada, allows eligible Australian nonprofits to apply to receive a free YouTube Brand Channel which includes the ability to add a call-to-action overlay to their videos.

Nonprofits will also be able to join YouTube Video Volunteers to find a skilled YouTube user to create a video for their cause.

Australian organisations which have already signed up to the new YouTube service are Kids Helpline, Plan Australia, AIME – Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience and NAPCAN National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.

The program first launched in 2007.

Leticia Lentini, Google’s nonprofit lead in Australia, said: “This program will provide Australian nonprofits with a platform to promote their cause to the world’s largest video community.”

Australian organisations which sign up by March 12 will be eligible for the global DoGooder NonProfit Video Awards which recognise the best nonprofit videos of 2009.
