Controversial doco released on DVD without expected TV broadcast
The 10 Conditions of Love will be released on DVD by Umbrella Entertainment on March 1, without the promotional support of a television broadast that the distributor had hoped for.
Umbrella marketing coordinator Matthew King told Encore that the company “supports John Lewis and the DVD release of The 10 Conditions of Love“, and will “fulfil our contract obligations”.
The limited release will make the documentary available at Borders book stores around Australia.
Last week, the controversial documentary about Uyghur leader Rebiya Kadeer made headlines again, when The Australian suggested that the ABC TV might have cancelled its broadcast due to diplomatic reasons. ABC MD Mark Scott dismissed these claims as “ludicrous”.
Producer John Lewis told Encore that the ABC had originally scheduled a December 17 screening, which was cancelled in November. This change caused the DVD release, which Umbrella was planning to execute the day after the broadcast, to be delayed.
The public broadcaster has not yet confirmed an air date for the program.
