‘Sydney’s most listened to radio show’: 2DayFM starts marketing push for Rove and Sam
2DayFM has released a series of tongue-in-cheek spots as its first marketing push for the fledgling breakfast partnership of comedian Rove McManus and Bachelorette star Sam Frost.
In a 60-second spot a voiceover introduces McManus as one of the most entertaining people in Australia and former Bachelorette Frost as having “captured the hearts of a nation”.
It then runs through a list of giveaways including cash and a car, being corrected by the duo on what they will and won’t be handing out, ending with the line “Sydney’s most listened to radio station” with McManus shouting “Incorrect” after.

The pair took over the breakfast show from Dan Debuf and Maz Compton in November but were still bottom of the commercial FM pile with a share of 3 per cent in the final radio ratings of the year, prompting SCA’s chief content officer Guy Dobson to pledge a marketing push going into the new year for them.
In another spot McManus is described as “the small guy with the big personality” and Frost as having had “more dates than hot dinners”, before the pair deny there is any sexual tension between them with Frost saying “this would never happen” pointing to McManus.

The third sees the voiceover promising they will give away a basket of puppies before being shot down by the duo, and then pledging to hand out a ‘unicorn’ – a shetland pony with a cone on its head – to which Frost replies “besides, unicorns don’t even exist any more”.

The pair are hoping to gain a march on their rivals by returning to the airwaves on January 4, three weeks before the official start of the ratings year when many other presenters are taking a summer break.

Why does the voiceover have a fake American accent?
a) 2DayFM could not afford a real American voiceover since they signed Rove up to the breakfast show
b) Research showed that 15 – 30 year olds in Sydney crave American accents and will switch stations according to the prominence of American accents
c) To take attention away from the fact that the ad is not funny (apart form the fact that it featured Sam’s puppies)
d) No reason at all. The new Hamish and Andy ads will have a Brazilian voiceover and the Hit 30 ads will use a Maltese accent

I’m sorry, but could she anymore wooden in her delivery? Actually, she could having heard her on the radio.
I’m sure she’s a lovely girl but completely out of her depth.
This will be a classic case of throwing good money after bad.
Expect a new co-host for Rove by June.
