How is a co-ordinated piece of entertainment at an event the sponsor has control in a “flash-mob”?
Because the people at the event were not expecting it, and look pleasantly surprised?
snore.

There needs to be a Stop-The-Choddy style website – http://stopthechoddy.org/ – for Flashmobs… fer f***’s sake.

Great idea Tom. At the very least, can we stop calling s**t ;like this a flashmob when it isn’t? Tim, can you at least put those annoying, fingers in the air, quote marks around the flash-mob allegation?
kthanksbai.

Two words…
“Fuck off!”.

aktifmag was organising ‘Flash robs’ in shops like Nike over 5 years ago. They should bring them back.

I’ve checked and http://www.deathtoflashmobs.com is available.

I’d have to agree with Tom and Joe, the only reason its been characterised as a flash mob piece is because of the ‘surprised’ look on the tipsy audience. Otherwise its b-grade dancers embarrassing themselves for a car.

Bad enough to want to make you want to boycott the BMW X3 in favour of the Great Wall motors 240, just in spite of this…

Oh, you’re such a boring bunch of cynics! They were having fun, people. FUN! Remember that? It’s what you used to have, before you sold your souls.

Is it a crime now for a car dealership to try and inject a bit of fun into an event? Perhaps there wasn’t enough for you lot to criticize in the previous articles today

@ Spunky 1972
Sure, it’s fun etc, but it’s not a flash-mob, that’s all.
Call a spade a spade please, words do have meaning.

The Marketing Director for BMW must be so happy! This really builds aspiration and premiumness into the brand. Makes the car really really desired.
I cannto believe that even after the event they thought they had something to turn into a video!

I had to stop it. It was like watching Keven Arnold trying to put the moves on Winnie. Squirm-worthy indeed!

Tasty, The Cap’n whacked himself senseless while watching this video. Thanks BMW.

@ Joe – it does refer to it as a “flash-mob themed” event, not literally a flash-mob

This is not a flash mob.

That’s the hottest thing I’ve seen in years. Incredible. Ummm.

Have to agree with Tony Bee – it’s fun, it would be unexpected for the people at the event. I was suspicious when I saw so many young people in the audience.
I’ve worked on luxury cars and the average age of the buyer is a lot older than the dancers.
But at the event it would be fun and memorable. I don’t know how they got the dancers to volunteer though – would have saved the dealership some dosh tho – there was quite a few dancers

Maybe the good people of Sylvania had never seen a flash-mob before.

I did a flash mob as part of marketing a festival, back in 2008. They belong in the noughties!

Totally a fun video – especially the ultra cringe-worthy anti-depressant laden older cheerleader at the front – ‘rhythm nation’ comes to mind.

That was cringe-worthy to say the least. Seeing how many people were part of that steaming pile of turd, it seems the dealership launch had about 7 Joe Publics and the rest were part of the local amateur theatre troupe. The look on the faces in the crowd was more bewilderment than enjoyment. Back to the drawing board BMW….

‘Greased lightning’ used to be farm or vet slang for less than solid bovine faeces. Seems it still is.

Oh cringe, that was awkward to watch. Tourism Ireland did a flash mob last week too for St Patricks Day. If someone registered http://www.deathtoflashmobs.com I would sign the petition.

Flash mobs are unconnected random collection of people brought together to do something fun and mildly disruptive.
That is not what this is. It’s a pretend-y one, that wouldn’t fool anyone.
When advertisers do it, all the charm is sucked out and you’re left with a mockery, and bastardisation of the wonderful sincerity and simple joy from a REAL flash-mob.
Just like a badly done social media campaign, this feels like watching your uncle dancing to the latest club chart.
Is this really what they paid for?

Yep, you know an event is a success when everyone there is paid to be there. Dull.

News flash – this is corporate entertainment, not a flash mob.
Then again, this is the Shire, so it could be anything!
