TEDx Canberra opens applications for “mind-blowing speakers” for 2012 event
TEDxCanberra has opened applications for speakers for the 2012 event. TEDx events are “smaller, less slick and more grassroots than TED – but with the same mind-blowing ideas and presenters” according to the event’s creative catalyst Stephen Collins.
TEDx Canberra sold out in 2010 and 2011, necessitating a move to larger venue than the previous years’ venue National Library of Australia.
TEDx Canberra Exec Producer, Clare Conroy, insists the speaker lineup includes “head and heart talks. There needs to be a range of things on stage that speak to our logical selves and our emotional selves. That’s why we’ve had everything from Nobel Laureates to high school students to 3rd sector social entrepreneurs to futurists to musicians and Australians of the Year on our stage”.
Previous TEDx Canberra speakers have been featured on the global TED site. Professor Thomas Pogge’s talk on the Health Impact Fund and Dr Stephen Coleman’s talk on the ethics of non-lethal weapons have both attracted over 160,000 views and hundreds of comments.
Unlike the Sydney TEDx event, audience members themselves will not be subject to a application process.
Thanks for posting this, guys! We really do appreciate it.
And, should anyone be keen to read the much longer, unedited interview, you can see it at tedxcanberra.org/2012/03/tedxcanberra-talks-to-mumbrella/.
We hope to see you in Canberra in the Spring!
