Australians on the hunt for bargains as Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals begin

Australians are gearing up for sales, as the National Australia Bank says the country is expected to spend $8 billion over the Black Friday to Cyber Monday period.

The announcement:

Readership data is aggregated across a network of users on a multitude of publisher sites in Australia, protecting individuals’ privacy while informing advertisers about the interests of their audience. This is made possible by working with recommendation platforms that integrate into a vast number of publisher sites, like Taboola.

What people read about changes depending on what they are going through and what’s happening in the world. This is what makes readership data reliably current for advertisers seeking to know what’s on their audience’s mind. It can lead to the discovery of seemingly “new” or unexpected topics their audience is reading about.

So what are the top topics consuming Australians at the moment? Shopping for bargains ahead of Christmas as Black Friday and Cyber Monday early sales promotions begin has seen huge surges in online readership.

Black Friday traditionally marks the start of Christmas shopping in the US, as it is the first Friday after Thanksgiving and is routinely the busiest shopping day of the year, similar to Australia’s Boxing Day sales. It also spawned Cyber Monday, a largely ecommerce event, created by retailers to capitalise and extend the Black Friday sales.

Both Black Friday (November 25) and Cyber Monday (November 28) are now firm favourites on the Australian shopping calendar, and the National Australia Bank estimates that we will spend $8 billion over the four day shopping period. Deals span everything from high tech gadgets to fashion, beauty and homewares.

Online reading regarding Black Friday in Australia has surged, with 299,000 pageviews in the last 90 days, up a massive 30,343% and peaking at 113,350 page views on 16 November as many Black Friday early bird and VIP access deals launched.

Cyber Monday has also experienced a big jump in online reading – up by 27,256% to 236,000 pageviews in the last 90 days.

Online reading about shopping sales has also increased by 100% in the last 90 days, to 11,000 pageviews, as has reading about sales deals, seeing a jump of 27,256% to 236,000 pageviews.
