Sunrise thumps Today with Gangnam Style

In the battle for Breakfast, Seven’s Sunrise had a particularly high rating yesterday of 462,000 viewers – beating rival Today on Nine by over 100,000 viewers.

Korean-popstar-about-town Psy was a guest on Sunrise, with promos showing the show’s breakfast team doing the singer’s now-famous Gangnam Style dance in Martin Place.

Today ranked 23rd overall, rating with 336,000.

Seven proved strong at the other end of the day too. The fly-on-the-wall series Surveillance Oz, was the highest rating show last night in its third week out, rating 1.125m total viewers.

Last week the 8pm show has gained steam compared with the last three weeks. It was the top non-news show and third overall while in its debut week, it rated seventh in total viewers.

Highway Patrol, airing before Surveillance Oz at 7.30pm was third for the night with 1.051m viewers, just behind Seven News on 1.059m viewers, making it a podium finish for the network.

Surveillance Oz was also first in the key advertising demographics of 18-49 and 25-54, but third in 16-39 behind Big Brother’s daily show in first place, and the special Big Brother Little Sister at 8pm set in the diary room with viewer questions posed to the housemates.

In total viewers, the episode rated 12th and 834,000. The show will run every Wednesday for its final weeks of broadcast.

Big Brother and its Little Sister was second and third respectively in the 18-49 demo. In 25-54 Big Brother was fourth and Big Brother: Little Sister was seventh.

ABC1’s Gruen Planet was fourth in total viewers with 1.018m, seventh in 16-39, fifth in 18-49 and 25-54.

The Chaser: Hamster Wheel rated 875,000 and 11th in total viewers but sixth across all demographics.

In nightly channel share, Seven won with 22.2% share ahead of Nine on 20.4%. ABC1 was third on 15.9% while Ten took 9.4% share. SBS was fifth on 4.4%.
