Sunrise readies for relaunch, while PM returns in weekly segment
The imminent relaunch of Seven’s breakfast show Sunrise will include the return of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in a weekly segment.
The PM will appear every Friday in a slot where he will answer viewers’ questions, TV Tonight revealed.
Rudd has previously been a regular on the show, debating issues with Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey.
Many observers have credited the programme with helping to boost his national profile.
The relaunched Sunrise, led by executive producer Adam Boland, will be unveiled on Monday, January 25.
Meanwhile, the competition against Nine rival, the Today show, is expected to intensify this year.
It is also introducing a new weekly segment from February 5 featuring the Opposition leader Tony Abbott and the Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
Summer ratings have revealed that Today has enjoyed its best summer ratings in more than five years.
Tom Malone, Today executive producer, said: “The ratings are a great tribute to everyone who’s worked so hard through the summer break to deliver the best shows for our viewers, but we’re only just getting started in 2010.”
An episode that aired on April 10 last year marked the first time Today had managed to beat Sunrise in five years. It attracted 279,000 viewers, compared to Sunrise’s 275,000.
Hope it works for Sunrise because the format getting very tired.

KRudd appears on Sunrise every week? Isn’t that un-constitutional?
Still won’t watch the show, but a bit surprised our national leader appears on a TV show every week. Even more surprising that it’s Sunrise.. No accounting for taste.

I thought the PM was supposed to be working for the good of Australians not the good of himself?
