#FreeAJStaff protest to take part at 6.41pm in support of jailed journalist Peter Greste and colleagues
Supporters of jailed Australian journalist Peter Greste and his Al Jazeera English colleagues will shortly hold a vigil to protest their unjust imprisonment in Cairo.
Staff from Al Jazeera and the BBC will be among those taking part in the protest at 6.41pm Sydney time – the time that the verdict against the Al Jazeera Three was announced yesterday.
According to a message from Al Jazeera’s PR agency Howorth: “In solidarity with Al Jazeera’s journalists and press freedom everywhere, we would like to invite you to also participate in the vigil in your own style, or simply ask you share photos on social media networks using the #FreeAJStaff hashtag, in support of Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed.”
Staff at Howorth and sister PR agency Ogilvy Australia have taken part in their own protest in support.
It’s a serious issue, so why do these people make idiots of themselves with gaffer tape over their mouths? They come off looking like the sort of lame street theatre you’d see from the Greens and other miscellaneous Centrelink customers.
And these people are supposed to be creative professionals?
God help Greste if they’re on his team.

Hi Mike,
Photographs of this type have been a regular feature of the #FreeAJStaff campaign rather than something Ogilvy cooked up last night. I’m sure they felt slightly silly doing it – the point is that this they did it anyway to show their support in a small way…
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Mike, it would be interesting if you could explained to the world what you are doing to help Peter Greste. Other that criticise others who are doing something that is.
