TEDxSydney ideas event announces new sponsors

Annual ideas event TEDxSydney has added UTS Business School, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, PwC, The Sydney Morning Herald, CarraigeWorks, Haycom and YouTube as sponsors for this year’s event.

The announcement:

SYDNEY, Aust., 25th March, 2011 – Annual ideas event, TEDxSydney is pleased to announce its Major Partners for 2011, with engagement and support increasing by more than 100% in the second year of the free event.

Major Partners are now UTS Business School and the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and a new Major Partner PwC Australia with significant support from The Sydney Morning Herald (Media), CarriageWorks (Venue & Production), Haycom (Staging) & YouTube (Streaming & Marketing).

Globally acknowledged as one of the world’s most influential new media brands, TED and its offshoot TEDx program is a US based not-for-profit enterprise devoted to the propagation of “Ideas Worth Spreading”.

TEDxSydney returns to CarriageWorks in Sydney’s Eveleigh on Saturday 28 May 2011. It will feature a selection of Australia’s leading thinkers, storytellers and performers sharing their ideas with an invited audience of 800 and simulcast via webstream to the world at large.

TEDxSydney licensee and head of the General Thinking network, Remo Giuffré (REMO General Store), said the partnership growth is testament to the rise in both the currency of the ideas market and the global ideas brand TED within Australia.

“We are delighted with the level of support for the event. Without the in-kind and financial support TEDxSydney receives, it would not exist. The brands associating with TEDxSydney are relevant to TED’s core focus of Ideas Worth Spreading and are the thought leaders in their respective fields,” he said.

This year, TEDxSydney welcomes PwC Australia as a new Major Partner.

Mary Waldron, PwC Managing Partner; Strategic Marketing and Communications said: “Asking questions is at the heart of what we do everyday with Australian businesses, charities and governments; assessing performance and improving outcomes. PwC is proud to be part of TEDxSydney and supports the growth of ideas and fresh thinking across
business and the community.”

A foundation partner of TEDxSydney in 2010, UTS Business School (the Business School of the University of Technology Sydney), returns with significant sponsorship support, working again with UTS Design School and 2nd Road to visualise the event.

Roy Green, Dean of UTS Business School said: “The UTS Business School is building a space where creativity is encouraged and all ideas are welcome. Our Frank Gehry designed school will ignite people and their passions, producing graduates with boundary-crossing skills as well as specialised knowledge. We see business itself as a form of artistry. Our major partnership with TEDxSydney provides the perfect canvas to explore the global future of business education, encouraging openness and collaboration in teaching and research, and engagement with business and the community.”

Also returning in 2011 is Foundation Media Partner, the ABC, producer of TEDxSydney’s official broadcast feeds. The ABC will provide support across its radio, digital and television platforms and as well as overseeing TEDxSydney’s live viewing event in the foyer, which is being produced by CarriageWorks in collaboration with co-founder of ABC’s The Chaser, Julian Morrow.

Mike Ebeid, ABC Director Corporate Strategy & Marketing said: “The ABC is very happy to once again be supporting TEDxSydney for 2011. It is sure to be bigger and better this year and the ABC is looking forward to sharing much of TEDxSydney’s great content to as many people as possible through all our various platforms: TV, Radio, Online and through our dedicated Digital Radio Channel which will broadcast the conference live. The ABC and TED are two brands that are driven by innovation and creative thinking.”

For the first time in 2011, The Sydney Morning Herald will support TEDxSydney through a Media Partnership that will educate readers about the TED philosophy and build anticipation in the lead up to the 2011 event.

Peter Fray, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Sydney Morning Herald said: “We applaud TEDxSydney for its pursuit and proliferation of genuine, world-changing ideas. The TED ethos is a natural synergy with our existing commitment to offer our readers a genuine platform for intellectual engagement and quality information. The Sydney Morning Herald will work with TEDxSydney to build a network of passionate advocates, committed to making excellent ideas a reality.”

YouTube is another addition to the 2011 sponsorship lineup, providing a live stream of the event, working with Sydney-based Viocorp. YouTube will also provide marketing support by way of a branded channel. The channel will be used to actively promote TEDxSydney and its activities to the public and their user base worldwide.

The confirmed speaker lineup for TEDxSydney 2011 includes: an inventor and entrepreneur, the musical director of an opera company, an expert on obesity, a philosopher of consciousness, a biomedical animator, an award winning designer, a big thinking astronomer, a corporate anthropologist, a world expert on genomic mutation and some truly inspiring musical performers.
