Despite Tingle mishap, Carlton is MADC client of the year

Despite a debacle which saw Clemenger BBDO’s “Tingle” work for Carlton Draught banned by the client as too risque, Carlton & United Breweries was named as client of the year at the Melbourne Advertising And Design Club Awards on Friday night.

And Clemenger BBDO Melbourne’s ‘s rocket powered rubber chicken “Dry Dreams” campaign for Carlton Dry was named best in show.

The campaign -which has since had its endline toned down from “Dry Dreams” to “Live the Dream” featured beer drinkers chatting about their madcap fantasies, which also included tank skeet shooting and elephant showjumping.

Other big award included honorary life MADC membership for creative Sean Cummins, and Clems Melbourne ECD Ant Keogh named as creative leader of the year.

TV campaign of the year was given to GPY&R’s “Flatmates” campaign for Cadbury’s Boost.

Ben Birchall and Shane Dawson’s video blog The Sack, which featured their attempts to get a job after being made redundant from The Campaign Palace, won a bronze in the best viral category, while TAC’s powerful Everybody Hurts 20 year anniversary compilation of its road safety ads – which has had more than four million views – won gold for Grey in the best viral film category.

Another TAC road safety ad, The Ride, won Lance Kelleher gold for best film direction.
