Vodafone appoints Ten’s ex-news boss Anthony Flannery as head of corporate media relations

AnthonyFlanneryVodafone has appointed former Channel Ten head of news and current affairs Anthony Flannery as its head of corporate media relations in Australia.

Flannery departed Ten at the end of February and is due to start with Vodafone tomorrow and will be responsible for the business’s corporate media relations across media outlets around Australia, including network, strategic announcements and financial reporting.

The telco’s general manager of corporate affairs Elise Davidson said: “Anthony is highly respected by the Australian media as one of the best operators in the business. He brings with him a deep understanding of the Australian media landscape and a broad network of contacts.

“Vodafone in 2014 is offering a superior network experience and leadership in areas like international roaming, customer service and growth in data. We have an amazing story to tell and we can’t think of a better person to help us tell it.”

Flannery joins Michelle Quint, responsible for the business’s consumer media relations, and is part of the wider corporate affairs team led by Davidson, which includes its social media, Vodafone Foundation and internal communications teams.

In a statement Flannery said: “I’m proud to be making this step to a company that is serious about offering great customer service and a great product to its customers. I’ve been impressed by Vodafone’s recent trajectory, including the expansion of its customer service centre in Tasmania.

“I am looking forward to working with a company that is very much in the business of serving Australia.”

The news comes as the telco continues its search for a creative agency after putting the account out for pitch in June. Mumbrella understands McCann and Cummins & Partners are currently on the shortlist.
