GOODLINX: Anti-social media; See the new Earth Hour TVC; The future of papers; Don’t blame me, I’m just a blogger

Adam Ferrier of Naked Communications on the psychology of social media:

“In the online social networking space many people are practicing behaviours that are indeed really quite anti-social. Therefore they will find themselves increasingly confined to effective communications in the online space only. Practice being an opinionated twat online – and that’s what you’ll become! The implication of this is ghastly.”

The Australian Newspapers blog on the future of rural papers:

“Talking to a colleague the other day, we ran the ruler over a country paper (not owned by Fairfax) and estimated the total revenue, including circulation, could not have been more than $3000 a week.”

Bloggers should take the same responsibility as journalists, whether they like it or not, says the Brainstorm blog:

“How often have I heard that defence when bloggers breach the journalism code of ethics. If you are behind the wheel of a car with your foot on the accelerator and the car is moving, you are the driver – even if you protest that you don’t hold a licence. In the same way, if you blog about a news event and provide new information or insight that adds to the story in a format that broadcasts it to a wide audience of readers / viewers, you are producing journalism – even if you’ve never collected a pay packet under that title.”

Earth Hour’s TVC has just been released on YouTube, voiced by Cate Blanchett. Leo Burnett is behind the campaign.
