Mardi Gras accepts Ten’s apology
The organisers of Sydney’s Mardi Gras have accepted Ten’s prompt apology for yesterday’s on-air comments from newsreader Ron Wilson about parts of the Sydney parade being “disgusting”.
On this morning’s bulletin Wilson also apologised for the comments.
A statement from co-chairman Peter Urmson, who was interviewed by Wilson, said: “We accept this apology in good faith. We appreciate the need for an interviewer to present contrary views and it is our roles as spokespeople to respond, however clearly a line was crossed yesterday and Ron made some highly subjective and damning comments which it is now clear he regrets.”
“Furthermore we appreciate that Ron was prepared to go on record, on a personal basis, stating his support for same-sex marriage. That is something that neither major political party has to date been prepared to do. It is not something Ron needed to do, but clearly felt important to put on record.”
“As far as we are concerned, it lays the matter to rest. Channel Ten has given otherwise positive coverage to this year’s Festival and Parade, and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
No one watched it anyway! He could have just written the few that did a personlised letter LOL

this is a farce because some parts of the weekend ARE disgusting. Not the parade, not the celebration of diversity, not the promotion of same sex marriage.
what’s disgusting are the flagrant public acts of sex and the sights of Oxford St at 7am on Sunday with human detritus of all shapes and sizes.

Ron starts by stating he should have exercised his impartiality as a journalist yet goes on to tell everyone his personal views of homosexual relationships and views on gay marriage!!!! (As an irrelevant aside, I watched a bit of it on Foxtel. Same tired old poofs in hotpants, same tired old gags from drag queens. Note to organisers: love it, but desperately needs a revamp. Vetting the “paraders” beforehand would be an excellent place to start! Fat men with fairy wings doth not a parade make!

In that case Flesh peddler should stay away from Oxford St at 7am Sunday morning.

Oh come off it, flesh peddler [sic]: this is 2011, and MGras is an in-you-face celebration of human sexuality, the body and ALL its possibilities. The huge numbers of people who come to the parade come because of all that: they’re fascinated because it shows things they don’t see in real life anywhere else. (They probably see it on the web, of course: porn has been the main driver of the internet.)
Nice gays may get married and adopt kiddies, but to many others our sexuality (umm, let’s say our SEX) is something else entirely…
“Flagrant public acts of sex” sounds like something you’d expect from George Pell’s pulpit.
And while we’re at it, I find mainstream media’s continual dangling of a retarded teenage titilation version of “sex” pretty appalling. But then, unlike mainstream TV, I don’t have the power to change anything.
I feel better now I might just go and… well, better not say hey

What was ‘disgusting’ was ARENA’s coverage…..poor effort!

God, I agree p6 – it was absolutely shocking coverage, nothing seemed planned, the commentators didn’t seem to know anything about the floats going by and the imported celebrity talent, Louie Spence was unbearable.
