Bankwest appoints WPP AUNZ as marketing and comms agency
Bankwest has appointed WPP AUNZ Group to handle its creative and communications account.
The bank will work with WPP agencies including Ikon Creative, Ogilvy Sydney, The Brand Agency, VML, PPR, PRISM, PLAY Events, Kantar and Hogarth.
Bankwest will continue to work with its current media agency, Ikon Communications, which is also part of the WPP holding group.
Nichole Banks, general manager of customer communications and brand at Bankwest, said in a statement: “We are looking forward to accessing specialist skills and creative from within the wider-group of agency brands both within WA and nationally and building on the strength of our current relationship with Ikon Communications.”
Incumbent agency Host won the account in 2010, and are losing the business just after the creative agency merged with Havas to become Host/Havas.
Havas bought Host in 2011, acquiring majority of the ownership. At the time of the acquisition Host’s clients included Vodafone Levi’s, The Coca-Cola Company, Bankwest, BT Financial Group and Sydney Water.
Host/Havas were included in the pitch for the account alongside a number of agencies.
Laura Aldington, CEO at Host/Havas, said: “We’ve enjoyed ten good years with Bankwest and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank them for their long standing partnership.”
Mike Connaghan, WPP AUNZ CEO, added: “We’re excited by the opportunity to broaden and deepen our relationship with Bankwest through the development of this unique agency model, it’s about giving the team access to the best talent wherever it sits in the group, without the complexity of managing multiple agency relationships.”
there will be more of this in future i would suggest.. becoming very hard for marketers to deal with competing interests of all agency partners.. better to go with one group

So as the ‘horizontal’ team that started it all starts to unravel, Bankwest falls for the disintegrated cluster f*ck. Well played.
