Seven wins Tuesday night despite strength of Masterchef – Back to Win

Seven won the overall TV ratings battle on Tuesday night, with an 18.0% metro audience share, ahead of Ten’s 17.3%, Nine’s 15.6%, ABC’s 12.2%, and SBS’ 5.6%.

The win came despite Ten’s Masterchef – Back to Win format dominating the 7:30pm timeslot, with a metro audience of 1.082m, and a national total of 1.403m.

Seven took out the win last night

In the same timeslot, Seven’s House Rules: High Stakes had 479,000 in the cities and 806,000 in total. A repeat of Hamish and Andy’s Perfect Holiday on Nine had 299,000 and 435,000. The ABC’s 7.30 beat both these offerings with 747,000 and 1.065m.

It was, however, Seven’s night in terms of news, with 1.306m metro viewers tuning in for its 6pm broadcast. With the addition of regional viewers, this climbed to 2.001m.

Nine News had 1.152m in the cities and 1.501m in total. It won in Melbourne and Brisbane, while Seven took out the other capital cities.

Seven also benefited from its Home and Away broadcast at 7pm, which had 673,000 in the cities and 1.099m in total.

The second half hour of Ten’s The Project at 7pm had 747,000 in the cities, but its national total slipped behind, with 948,000.

Masterchef – Back to Win and The Project at 7pm placed first and second across the key advertising demographics of those aged 16 to 39 and 18 to 49, while Seven News jumped to second in the 25 to 54s.

In breakfast television, Seven’s Sunrise had a metro total of 310,000 compared to Today on Nine which drew 213,000. Today did, however, win in Brisbane.

The national total for Sunrise was 538,000, compared to Today’s 330,000.

With the addition of multi-channels, it was still Seven’s night, with the Seven Network securing 26.5% of the total TV audience.

The Nine Network came within spitting distance of Network Ten, creeping up to 23.2%, just behind Ten’s 23.4%. ABC’s channels had a total of 17.0%, while SBS’ totalled 9.8%. 10 Bold had the largest share of the multi-channels with a 3.8% share.
