Despicable Me 3 knocks Wonder Woman off top spot at weekend box office

Universal’s Despicable Me 3 has beaten Warner Bros’ Wonder Woman at the weekend box office, collecting $5.892m on its debut weekend.

The film, featuring the voices of Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig and Trey Parker, tells the story of Gru and Lucy, their three daughters and the minions.

According to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia, Wonder Woman slipped into second place from last week, collecting $3.357m in earnings across 388 screens.

The film has now earned over $20m at box office since its premiere on 1 June.

Roadshow’s documentary about rapper Tupac Shakur, All Eyez On Me, achieved $1.736m in its first weekend at box office.

Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella’s film, The Mummy, fell to fourth place over the weekend with $1.663m in earnings.

In fifth place was Sony’s Rough Night, the story of five best friends from colleague who reunite 10 years later for a bachelorette weekend in Miami, which made $1.564m.

The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jillian Bell, Zoe Kravitz, Ilana Glazer and Kate McKinnon.
