Cannings Purple promotes Ruth Callaghan to chief innovation officer

WPP’s Perth-based communications agency Cannings Purple has made a raft of internal promotions, elevating associate director of corporate affairs Ruth Callaghan to the new chief innovation officer role.

Media adviser Peter Klinger has also been promoted to director of media strategy which will see him lead the agency’s media advisory practice.

In addition, senior adviser Caroline Thomson rejoins the corporate affairs team as director after a number of years leading Cannings Purple’s business development function.

The move means Kristy Havelberg has been promoted to manager of business development and marketing, and Lauren Pow takes on the role of consultant in the corporate affairs team.

Sarah-Jane Dabarera moves into an account services co-ordinator role.

Cannings Purple’s managing director Warrick Hazeldine said the numerous shuffles reflected the agency’s growth and its policy of supporting the development and career aspirations of its people.

“We pride ourselves on hiring the best people to create a practice that delivers outstanding results for both our clients and for the company,” he said.

In particular, he said the creation of the chief investment officer role – which will see Callaghan continue to work with clients with a dual focus on assessing innovative strategies and developing new opportunities for digital and data-driven solutions – was driven by the pace of disruption in the way businesses and leaders communicate.

“The ability to embrace these changes and to harness disruptive forces to help communicate faster and more effectively is the new normal. So too is understanding the road ahead, and rapidly assessing, then adopting or discarding the right technologies for your business,” he said.

“Ruth [Callaghan] is a futurist. She is an outstanding innovator, communicator, and design-thinker who applies curiosity, creativity and disruptive thinking to her work at Cannings Purple. Both the agency and our clients have experienced the benefits she brings, particularly in the social listening and sentiment tracking, data analytics and digital media space.”
